New board members were elected at the final Music Boosters meeting for 2013-2014. Mr. Hess remains as Faculty Liaison.  Other officers and committee chairs include: Julie DeMarco (Recording Secretary), Donna Zane (Volunteer Coordinator) and Susanna Prill (Ice Cream Social Coordinator.)

The following volunteer positions are open and urgently needed: Teacher Liaisons for each school, Membership Chairperson, Merchandise Chairperson, School Performance Coordinator and Booster Book Chairperson.  Additionally volunteers are needed to help out with the above committees.

New Providence Schools Recognized for Music Education

The National Association of Music Merchants, known as the NAMM Foundation, recognizes New Providence School District for its outstanding commitment to music education with a Best Communities for Music Education designation. New Providence joins 307 districts across the country to receive the prestigious distinction this year.

“This recognition represents the community’s passion and support for the arts and we are very fortunate to have a dedicated staff that is committed to music education.” said Dr. David Miceli, Superintendent of Schools. “On behalf of the New Providence Board of Education, we would like to congratulate the entire community on this national designation.”

Emma Peterson winner at the Minuetto Music Festival

2013 Continuoarts BrochureNPHS Alumnus and recipient of the Susan Iatesta Music Educator’s Award, Emma Peterson is a young artist winner at the Minuetto Music Festival this week in Summit.

Winners concert on Tuesday and finale concert on Friday.

NPMS Trip to Music in the Parks in Kutztown, PA and Dorney Park

Congratulations to the New Providence Middle School Chorus, Girls’ Ensemble, Concert Band, Jazz Band and Orchestra on a spectacular trip to Music in the Parks in Kutztown, PA and Dorney Park.

All ensembles earned “Superior” ratings (the highest rating), and there were three individual winners – jazz soloist and the 2 choir accompanists.

The school also won the coveted “Esprit de Corps” award for the third year in a row.

Kudos to the music staff for a wonderful day!

Disney’s ‘Beauty and the Beast’ Shines at New Providence High School

NEW PROVIDENCE, NJ – The New Providence High School Theater Department presented their production of Disney’s “Beauty and the Beast” this past weekend. “Beauty and the Beast” was shown through a special
arrangement with Music Theater International.

Co-Producers Craig Duke, Susan Kirkland, and Leslie Ditta all explained their interest in choosing a family-friendly musical this year.

Said Kirkland, who was also the musical director, “Since our school is deeply rooted in our community, we like to choose shows that resonate with our families and neighbors. ‘Beauty and the Beast’ is a particularly fitting show, because it provides entertainment for young and old.” Continue reading
